Swim & Dive Team
Swim Team Goal:
To promote good sportsmanship, foster team spirit, improve swimming skills, and have fun!
Membership on the swim team is open to all girls and boys between the ages of 7-17 as of June 15th of the current year who can swim at least one full length of the pool in three out of the four strokes legally without stopping and can do a safe racing dive off of the blocks. The team competes in Division 1 of the Fairfield County Swim League (www.fcsl.info). Practices are divided so that swimmers of similar ages and abilities can learn together and develop positive relationships. Not all young swimmers are ready for the swim team and may be encouraged to participate in the non-competitive pre-team or swim lessons program instead. The coaching staff will recommend the appropriate placement for each swimmer.
Our program is designed so that divers can enter as absolute beginners and progress at their own pace, continually improving as they meet and set new goals for themselves. The dive team is open to all girls and boys who can swim independently.
The pre-team is the ideal choice for children who are able to swim independently, but would like to develop their efficiency in the water, learn the four competitive strokes, and hopefully become a member of the swim team! Child must be able to complete one lap (25 yards) of front crawl without assistance. On the pre-team, children will learn the skills necessary for becoming a more self-sufficient and versatile swimmer, focusing primarily on the development of the four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breastroke, and butterfly. In addition, swimmers will be introduced to “starts,” or diving from the blocks, as well as proper turns. We will also introduce the swimmers to “competition” with our Freestyle Frenzy and Dynamite Meets! On the final day of practice, we will have an end of the season pizza party to celebrate!
